High Tea for Hope brings the community together to create Havens of Hope
Our High Tea for Hope at 1 Hotel Melbourne brought together 160 guests from across the community, united by a shared purpose – creating safety, dignity and hope for women and children impacted by family violence.
The afternoon was a beautiful celebration of compassion, generosity and the power of community. We were honoured to welcome guest speaker Cathy Freeman AC, who joined MC George Donikian on stage for an inspiring conversation about her life, her journey, and the resilience required to overcome challenges and achieve the extraordinary.
One of the most memorable moments of the afternoon was watching Cathy’s iconic Olympic gold medal race play on screen, with Cathy herself seated just metres away. It was a powerful and emotional reminder of the strength, courage and determination that can transform lives.
Throughout the event, guests heard about the impact of You Matter’s work and the importance of creating safe, welcoming homes for women and children as they begin to rebuild their lives. Each Haven provides more than just a furnished space – it provides comfort, stability and a place where families can start their next chapter with hope.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone in the room, we raised enough to fund 24 fully furnished Havens – creating 24 safe and supportive homes for women and children moving forward after family violence.
