MLC students make a difference with 1,040 Haven Essentials
We are incredibly grateful to the senior students and school community of Methodist Ladies’ College for their extraordinary generosity through the recent Haven Essentials Drive, held as part of the MLC Citizenship Program.
The school community collected an incredible 1,040 Haven Essentials:
- 348 kitchen items
- 373 laundry, bathroom and linen items
- 182 pantry items
- 18 small electrical items
- 119 personal items
While furniture provides the foundations of a You Matter Haven, it is these everyday essentials that help turn an empty house into a welcoming home. They are the practical items that allow a family to cook a meal, wash clothes, prepare for school or work and begin to establish a sense of normality.
For women and children rebuilding their lives after family violence, these simple items can represent so much more: comfort, dignity and the opportunity for a genuine fresh start.
The care and thought that went into the collection is a wonderful reflection of the compassion and community spirit of the MLC Senior School. We are especially inspired to see young people so thoughtfully engaged in making a meaningful difference to the lives of others.
